When I started writing Calico, it was on a whim. I didn’t know what I was doing, or even if I’d finish. It became more of a project built on the foundation of building a new community. I know people, and people know me; but my people don’t know my people. With the development of Calico, I had built a way for everyone I know to get to know each other through a mutual interest. “Caleb’s book”. That was the idea originally, then I got into it. Writing has been so much fun. Don’t get me wrong; writing short stories as a kid was fun, but this was so different. I have a fully formed brain now. I’ve been in the military, I’ve graduated college, I’ve learned a new language. I’m a completely different animal in nearly all aspects of my life, barring my imagination. I want to get the next story out and published traditionally this time around. Mastiff, I mean. The sequel is well in the works but with a different motivation from Calico. Where Calico was built as an anchor for a new community; Mastiff is more like the ship. Prepping and sealing any cracks that might be lingering. Follow the Calico Trilogy. Its gonna be great.

Well, without spoiling too much... I'd say it's a story about a person looking for a sense of purpose in the form of community in an unlikely, yet somewhat familiar, place. Unfortunately, it's the hidden gems that you have to protect the most.

Absolutely! I'm actually hard at work on the sequel to Calico, and plan on completing the trilogy over the next few years. Stay tuned for the next part of the Calico saga: MASTIFF.

Calm down. Writing takes time and patience. You wouldn't rush Leonardo! Or maybe you would. Bottom-line, it'll be out when I'm confident its ready to be seen.
